Mike Stackpole has started a project called the Chain Story. Basically, it is a series of stories, published on the web, by different authors, tied together by a common frame. The frame is the Wanderer’s Club, a meeting place for adventurers of all ages, genders, and even species.
I plan on watching this project closely. The idea is that the various authors contributing stories share their readership with other authors. Each author publishes their story on their own website, with links back to the previous story. The stories are free (at least initially, but older stories may go to a pay-to-read model, depending on the author).
