I like the look of this web site. When I saw the design at Best Free Templates, I grabbed it, changed a few of the graphics and called it good. But then last Wednesday Kat Klaybourne was kind enough to give my site a quick look and comment on it. She mentioned four things I should work on. (She may have mentioned others, but these four items stuck.)
- The “script” font I had used was too common and the serifs made it harder on the eyes. She suggested going to a font without the serifs and told me about dafont.com.
- I should use graphics to represent my work. You only have three seconds to make someone dig around on your site. So I added a graphic “cover” to each piece of fiction and I’m trying to use more images in the actual blog posts.
- I should tag my posts. I had been categorizing them loosely, but after her suggestion I added a Tag Cloud and went through and added tags to each blog entry.
- She suggested I snag a couple domains that would be easier to remember. ChuckHeintzelman.com is easily misspelled so I picked up ChuckHeinzelman.com. In addition you can now get to my site with StoryChuck.com or ChucklesWrites.com.
All in all, I think these small changes are pretty significant. Thanks for suggesting them Kat!
Here’s an the old home page for comparison.
